Server and Database Roles in SQL Server

Fixed server roles:

There are 8 types of fixed server roles in sql server

We can get a list of the fixed server roles from exec sp_helpsrvrole

Sys admin            -           can do anything within sql server. Most powerful role in sql server. Limit its access to only those who absolutely need it.

Security admin     -          can manage lo-gins and create database permissions, also read error logs and change passwords.

Setup admin         -           can manage linked servers and start up procedures.

Server admin        -           can set server wide configuration options, shut down the server

Bulk admin          -           can perform bulk operations (i.e., bulk insert statements)

Db creator            -           can create, alter, drop, backup and restore any database

Disk admin           -           members belonging to the disk-admin fixed server role can manage the disk files on the server user i.e., user having disk-admin fixed server roles can delete a backup file present on the server.

Process admin      -          members of the process-admin fixed server role can end processes that are running in an instance of sql serve
